Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 9, 2026
Who we are: Lanyard is made by Daniel Fernandez, an individual developer in the USA.
Questions: [email protected].

The short version

What stays on your iPhone

Lanyard records debriefs and talks with your microphone, reads cards, badges and slides with your camera or from photos you pick, reads calendar entries you choose an event from, and writes follow-ups to Reminders when you ask. All of it is processed by Apple's on-device frameworks (speech recognition, text recognition and Apple Intelligence's on-device model). Lanyard doesn't use any cloud AI service.

What Lanyard keeps is stored in its own app storage on your iPhone, encrypted with a separate key for each event. Deleting an event destroys its key, so nothing left of it can be read. You can also remove an event's recordings while keeping its transcripts and report, erase everything about one person, and set an event to delete itself after a number of days. Lanyard's data is excluded from iCloud and computer backups. If you want a copy, Settings › Backup makes an encrypted file protected by a passphrase only you know.

What leaves your iPhone, and only when you send it

When you tap Send, you see the report first, then choose where it goes:

Lanyard keeps a list of what you sent where on your iPhone, so you can see it in the app. We don't receive it.

Slack, Notion and Google Docs integrations are coming in a later version. This policy will be updated before they ship.

Anonymous usage counts (optional)

Off unless you turn it on. You choose during setup, and you can change it in Settings at any time. Your organization may also turn it off for you. When it's off, nothing is recorded or sent.

When it's on, Lanyard sends a small batch about once a day to our server (a Cloudflare Worker at api.lanyard.mobile). A batch contains:

We use this to see which features are used and where the app fails, so we can improve it. We don't combine it with other data, sell it or use it for advertising. Our server doesn't store IP addresses, browser or device headers. Counts are kept for three months in Cloudflare Workers Analytics Engine, then deleted by Cloudflare.

Settings › See what we send shows the exact batch that would be sent next.

Feedback

If you use Send feedback, we receive the category you picked, an optional 1–5 rating, the message you typed, your app version and, only if you enter one, an email address for our reply. You see the whole message before it's sent. We keep reply addresses for 90 days and feedback for 365 days, then delete them. If our server isn't available, the same message goes through your Mail app to [email protected].

Off-switches

To protect users if a release has a problem, Lanyard checks our server for a signed list of features to turn off. The request carries no identifier, no cookies and no data about you.

Purchases

Purchases (the free first event, Event Pass and Pro) are handled by Apple through the App Store. Lanyard doesn't see your payment details or Apple ID. To remember your free event across reinstalls, Lanyard stores a small marker in your iPhone's Keychain. It stays on your iPhone.

Permissions Lanyard asks for

Recording other people

Recording laws differ by place. Lanyard reminds you before your first talk recording to check that the event allows recording, and to tell people before recording a conversation with them. You are responsible for having the consent the law requires.

Organizations (managed devices)

If your organization manages your iPhone, it may set Lanyard's options, for example requiring Face ID, turning off usage counts, limiting how long events are kept, or turning off recording. Your organization can't read your captures or reports through Lanyard.

Children

Lanyard is made for professionals at conferences and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you think we have, write to [email protected] and we'll delete it. If you're under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), use Lanyard with a parent's or guardian's permission. In the EEA and the UK, if you're under 16 (or the lower age your country sets), ask a parent or guardian before you turn on usage counts.

Your rights and choices

If you're in the EEA or the UK

The controller of the personal data described here is Daniel Fernandez, an individual developer in the USA, reachable at [email protected]. Our legal bases are your consent for usage counts and for the beta waitlist, and our legitimate interest in answering you and improving the app for feedback you send. You can withdraw consent at any time (turn usage counts off in Settings, or ask us to remove you from the waitlist); that doesn't affect what was sent before.

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Write to [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work; in the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office.

We're based in the United States. Cloudflare, which runs our server and this website, processes data for us under its data processing agreement, and transfers from the EEA and the UK rely on the safeguards in that agreement, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

If you're in California

We don't sell or share personal information, as the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) defines those terms, and we don't use it for targeted advertising. You can ask what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it at [email protected]. We won't treat you differently for asking.

This website

lanyard.mobile is hosted by Cloudflare. If you join the beta, we receive the email address you type, the badge you picked on the page (Attendee, Exhibitor or Speaker, if any), which version of the page you saw and which signup form you used. We store it in a Cloudflare database. We don't store your IP address with it. We use it only to send beta invites and launch news, and we delete it when you ask us to at [email protected].

The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when you open it. The site sets no cookies and has no advertising code.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for a material change, tell you in the app before it applies.
